Minor girl raped, murdered in Lonavala hotel

Pune: The body of a seven-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered, was found at a hotel in Lonavala near here, police said on Thursday.

The girl had gone to the hotel along with her family members to attend a wedding function on Sunday. She later went missing and her body with slit throat was found on the hotel's terrace on Tuesday afternoon.

The minor was sexually assaulted, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Manoj Kumar Lohiya told PTI, while quoting an 'advanced certificate' issued by concerned medical authorities.

"We will get the postmortem report today. We are investigating the case on top priority. We have filed police complaint under relevant IPC sections," Lohiya said.

The footage of CCTVs installed in the hotel is being examined and statements of the hotel staff and the people who attended the function are being recorded.

"We found that the CCTV camera on the terrace was not working, but two CCTVs installed at the gate were functional.

We are analysing the feeds. We have started recording statements of the persons who were there at the wedding ceremony, including hotel staff, catering staff and management," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim's father, hailing from Indapur tehsil in Maharashtra's Raigad district, told reporters that they had come to attend a wedding at the hotel in Lonavala and their daughter went missing on Sunday night.

Alleging that police was not carrying out proper probe in the case, he said that when he first went to lodge the missing complaint on Sunday night, police refused to act immediately and instead asked him search for the girl on his own.

The hotel staff also did not cooperate with him in the search for his missing daughter, he further alleged.

"We could have save her had the police acted immediately," the distraught father said.

Police have registered a case under IPC sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping) and other relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in this regard.

IPCC Chairman RK Pachauri Under Police Investigation For Alleged Sexual Harassment Of Subordinate

NEW DELHI: Police in Delhi have commenced investigation in a sexual harassment case under criminal and non-bailable charges against Rajendra Pachauri, the 75-year-old chairman of the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The complainant is a 29-year old woman who works in his office at The Energy and Resources Institute, the research thinktank he heads as director general.

Pachauri is a globally influential voice on climate change and received the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of IPCC in 2007.

The complainant has worked in Pachauri's office for the past year and a half, and registered a complaint against him last week, alleging that he had sexually harassed her since September 2013. A first information report (FIR) was registered in the Lodhi Colony police station in Delhi on Wednesday.

The FIR, which has named Dr. Pachauri, has been filed under sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code which pertain to outraging the modesty of a woman, assault and criminal force on her, unwelcome physical contact or advances, and making sexually-coloured remarks. All of them are non-bailable offences and based on the evidence thrown up by the investigation, police can move to arrest an accused.

Police sources told HuffPost India that they were in the preliminary stages of investigation and were as yet recording statements. An arrest at this stage would be unlikely, they said. Forensic evidence is also being gathered in the case. The SHO of Lodhi Colony police station, Virender Singh Dalal, declined comment.

Pachauri has alleged that his computer and phone was hacked, in a response to The Economic Times, which first reported the story. Pachauri subsequently obtained an injunction from the Delhi high court, which has restrained the media from reporting on or discussing the details of the complaint.

That Tape is in Our Hand- Thomas Isaac

Kochi: CPI M MLA T.M. Thomas isaac on Wed said that his party's Alappuzha District Secretary Saji Cherian has got an audio clip within which solar scam accused Saritha Nair admits that she has close connection with Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

The CPM leader revealed this to the judicial commission probing the scam during the recording of his statement on wednesday.

“Saritha created the revelations in a phone conversation with Saji Cherian. However, since Saritha speaks plenty of obscene matters throughout the conversation, the party decided to not use the tape as a proof within the case,” isaac said.

A news anchor and an eminent journalist in a tv channel discussion had talked about a pen drive seized from Saritha.

“The news anchor said that he had come to understand about the pen drive from a reliable source and that the Puthuppally-native (Chandy) will have to suffer plenty if the images in it are leaked,” isaac said, adding that both the journalists should be summoned for taking statements.

Konni-based businessman and a complainant in one of the cases, Sreedharan Nair, had said that Saritha handed over a cheque for Rs 2 lakh to CM's relief fund on july, 9, 2013 once he met Oommen Chandy along with her.

“However, the Chief Minister repeatedly said that he had not met Saritha and that he met Sreedharan Nair along with some quarry owners. but a reply to an RTI query proves that such a cheque was received from Saritha's solar company on july ten, 2013,” the CPM legislator said while handing over the document to the commission.

Isaac also handed the commission a copy of an email in which Saritha tells Sreedharan that they could meet the CM on july 9. The mail was sent on july 5.

Isaac told the panel that he did not suppose that Chandy had shares in Team solar, the company owned by Biju radhakrishnan and Saritha, the key accused within the case.

“Chandy's role was to help the company earn credibility among the customers. the company functioned with the knowledge and support of Chandy,” isaac said.

A minister should take the ethical responsibility if his personal staff do something wrong, he said adding that he should have resigned if his personnel staff had committed such a misdeed.

Isaac said he didn't know if there were any lapses in probing the complaints against solar fraudster throughout 2006-11 once LDF was in power.

Replying to counsels' queries, isaac said that he had no idea regarding the rumours that Saritha and her company had contacts with the then Home Minister.

Sunanda case: Tharoor lashes out at media

Thiruvanathapuram: Former Union minister Shashi Tharoor today vent his anger at the media, alleging that "concocted" stories and "lies" about him were being put out in connection with the investigation into his wife Sunanda Pushkar's mysterious death.

"Revolted by the lies in the media about me, esp on Kerala channels. Stories are concocted &attributed to police sources without any basis," the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram said in a series of tweets.

"Our country needs better &more honest journalism. Not that will broadcast or publish any lie so long as it will titillate &increase TRPs," he said.

"What a sad state we have reduced our press freedom to!," he said in another tweet which showed a picture of a placard which read "Caution: the media is NOT a reflection of reality".

There were reports that the New Delhi police had warned Tharoor for not giving appropriate answers to the several questions asked by the special investigation team.

"If there is such an issue, they would have informed me first rather than going to media. All such reports are totally baseless as I am fully cooperating with the investigation,".Tharoor had said earlier insisting that he was fully cooperating in the probe.

Tharoor had reportedly reached Thiruvananthapuram on Friday for a five-day programme in his home constituency after taking special permission from the SIT for travelling outside New Delhi.

The police had informed that he should not go outside Delhi without permission.
