Rihanna: Singer & Fashion Icon Turns 27 – Happy Birthday

It was only fitting that the fashion icon and singer celebrated her 27th birthday just one day after New York Fashion Week ended. In honor of our beloved bad gal, we rounded up some of our favorite moments of the one and only Riri!

Rihanna’s Birthday: Singer & Fashion Icon Turns 27 – Happy Birthday

From her rumored romance with Leonardo DiCaprio to her new song, “FourFiveSeconds” with Paul McCartney and Kanye West, Riri has made her mark on practically everyone this year!

Fortunately, she even made a return to Instagram to reconnect with her 15 million followers!

And, this is just the beginning, as the singer plans to release her eighth studio album, R8, in 2015

As Riri worked on her highly anticipated album this year, she also continued to immerse herself even more in the fashion industry!

Following her Style Icon Award at the2014 CFDA awards, the songstress added another title to her resume in 2015: global ambassador for PUMA!

She will also put her stylish eye and design expertise to use as the creative director for PUMA’s women’s training category. Go Riri! Equally, we love how the Barbados native has also shown her support for smaller labels too.

Indeed, it seems that everyone wants a piece of Rihanna including Leo DiCaprio! The rumored pair was reportedly hooking up for months, but the jury is out on whether the “We Found Love” singer and the actor will actually settle down.

Regardless of Riri’s dating life, the singers seems to be very focused on her music instead of men. As we previously reported, RiRi is so over dating fellow recording artists like Drake and Chris Brown.

Although Riri isn’t exactly focusing on her future husband, we can already tell she’ll be an amazing mother one day! This past year, the star gave us a preview of her maternal instincts while playing with it-babies, Blue Ivy and North West. What we would give to go back in time so we could be baby sat by the coolest bad gal ever!

Modi govt does not want me to continue as Nalanda University chancellor: Amartya Sen

NEW DELHI: Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has withdrawn his candidature for a second term as Nalanda University chancellor, saying the Narendra Modi government does not want him to continue in the chair.

Sen, who has long been a critic of Modi, in a letter to the Governing Board of the University blamed the absence of government's approval for delay in nod from the Visitor, President Pranab Mukherjee, to his name even though the recommendation was sent to him over a month back.

"Non-action (by government) is a time-wasting way of reversing a board decision, when the government has, in principle, the power to act or not act...It is hard for me not to conclude that the government wants me to cease being the chancellor of Nalanda University after July, and technically, it has the power to do so.

"This delay, as well as the uncertainty involved, is leading, in effect, to a decisional gap, which is not helpful to Nalanda University's governance and its academic progress.

"I have, therefore, decided that in the best interest of Nalanda University, I should exclude myself from being considered for continuing as chancellor beyond this July, despite the unanimous recommendation and urging of the governing board for me to continue," he has written.

It is clear that Mukherjee has been unable to provide his assent to the Board's unanimous choice in the absence of government's approval, he said.

The Visitor has always taken a "deep personal interest" in the speedy progress of the work of Nalanda University, and given that, they have to assume that something makes it difficult -- or impossible -- for him to act with speed in this matter, he said.

The Board had made the recommendation in its last meeting on January 13-14.

The Bharat Ratna also rued that academic governance in India remains "so deeply vulnerable to the opinions of the ruling government".

"Even though the Nalanda University Act, passed by Parliament, did not, I believe, envisage political interference in academic matters, it is formally the case -- given the legal provisions (some of them surviving from colonial days) -- that the government can turn an academic issue into a matter of political dispensation if it feels unrestrained about interfering," he said.

Three-boobed woman quashes hoax claims

London:Jasmine Tridevil, who gained fame after claiming that she has three-boobs, has quashed claims that her bizarre surgical enhancement was merely ahoax.

Some people suggested that her third breast was just a wearable prosthetic and several news outlets also suggested that she had even reported a "three breast prosthesis" stolen when her bags went missing at Tampa Airport in Florida, in 2014, the Daily Express reported.

The 21-year-old from Florida, who claims that she went through with the peculiar procedure to make herself feel unattractive towards men, said that she knows her breasts are real and she doesn't care what anybody thinks.

Tridevil added that getting a third breast was not always her plan as she just had the idea two years ago. People always have something to say they will criticise it or will love it and ask for a picture.

She added that if she goes to a park, where there are children, parents will give her dirty looks, but if she goed to a bar it seems like everybody loves it.

Tridevil, who claims the surgery cost 12,000 pounds and took around an hour-and-a-half to complete, said that a lot of surgeons thought she was prank calling them but she was serious they just did not take her seriously, with one asking her to check herself into a mental hospital.

Eventually, she finally found a doctor who would perform the enhancement surgery, but only if she signed non-disclosure agreement meaning she can never reveal his identity.

She has had numerous calls to categorically prove that her three breasts are real, but as of yet she has refused every offer because she could never consider doing a topless shoot, which is against the way she was raised.

It's official! Having sex just as effective as gyming

Washington: A new study has found that having sex is similar toexercising, as it burns an average of 4.2 calories a minute in men and 3.1 calories a minute in women.

For the study, sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson observed 21 youngheterosexual couples having sex and discovered that heart rates reached as high as 180 beats per minute, Live Science reported.

Participants in the study were asked to don an armband, called SenseWear , that would help researchers keep an eye on their energy expenditures while they had sex.

Before being sent home to have sex at least four times in a month, each person was required to do a 30-minute moderate-intensity workout on the treadmill to provide a baseline measure of their calorie expenditure during exertion.

The findings showed that men, on average, spent 101 calories while having sex, as compared to 276 calories on the treadmill.

Also, women spent an average of 69 calories during a sex session, compared to an average of 213calories on the treadmill.

According to researchers, the results of the study suggest that sexual activity may potentially be considered, at times, as a significant exercise.

The study was published online in the journal PLOS ONE.

Convulsion in CPI(M) on eve of State meet

Alleppey: The State CPI(M) appeared to be facing an explosive situation on eve of the party State conference beginning here on Friday with the party State secretariat publicly accusing party veteran V.S. Achuthanandan of indiscipline and factionalism and the latter hitting back in equal measure stating he was dismissing the charge ‘with contempt.’

The party State leadership and Mr. Achuthanandan found themselves on a collision course when the CPI(M) State secretariat came out with a resolution accusing Mr. Achuthanandan of having leaked the contents of a letter he had sent to the State committee to the media and accusing him of persistent indiscipline and factional positions.

Reacting to CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan’s news conference on the subject, Mr. Achuthanandan hit back saying it was against the Central committee decision forbidding action on any party member on the eve of a conference. He had written his letter to the Polit Bureau and would rather discuss the issue with the Polit Bureau members, Mr. Achuthanandan said. In the resolution, answering each point raised by Mr. Achuthanandan in his letter, the CPI(M) State secretariat said the State committee had discussed the letter and rejected it at its meeting on February 9 and 10. A newspaper published the letter on February 18.

“This shows that V.S. Achuthanandan is not giving up his indiscipline…This document shows that raising of allegations with factional objectives continues. The party had clarified its position on the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder earlier (when) VS made public statements at variance with the common stand of the party. VS has sunk to a state of mind where he continues to hold the same position and accuses the party of fascist attitude,” the resolution said.

On the LDF’s defeat in the last Assembly elections, the resolution said the party had not arrived at the conclusion that the defeat was on account of faulty candidate selection.

On the solar stir, it said the decision to withdraw the stir was taken collectively with the involvement of all parties and leaders, including Mr. Achuthanandan.

The post-mortem report has confirmed that the girl was raped before being killed.

Station House Officer Ram Kumar Yadav said the accused were arrested, and further investigation was under way.

Lakhimpur Kheri SP Arvind Sein told The Media : “Two slides have been prepared, and the report of the pathological tests is awaited.”

Greenpeace activist Priya Pillai refuses to give undertaking sought by govt

New Delhi: Greenpeace activist Priya Pillai, who was offloaded from a flight at the IGI Airport here last month, today said she has refused to give an undertaking as sought by the government as a pre-condition to allow her to travel abroad.

"The government today asked me to give an undertaking in writing that I would not speak about violation and, if I give such an undertaking, I would be allowed to leave this country and travel abroad. But I refused to give that undertaking," Pillai told a private TV channel on Thursday.

She said she had refused to give the undertaking as she was refusing "to take on a gag order only".

"As a citizen of this country, I have every right to peacefully protest, talk, clearly express opinion within the Constitution," she said.

The 37-year-old Pillai had sought permission to travel to London to make a presentation before British MPs on alleged human rights violation at Mahan in Madhya Pradesh which, she claimed, was the reason why she was offloaded from the flight
at IGI Airport here on January 11.

The Delhi High Court today termed inappropriate the government's decision to off-load Pillai and said that difference of opinion does not mean being anti-national. The court said that there can be a difference of opinion but it does not mean that a person's movement is curtailed.

The Look Out Circular (LOC) against Pillai will be withdrawn if she gives an undertaking that she will not depose before the UK parliamentary committee on alleged violations in the country, the government told Delhi High Court today.

World's first 'wee willy party' to see men with small penises converge

London: Men across Britain will now be able to shake off insecurities about their small penises at the first-ever "wee willy party" to be held in the UK.

The party, called The Big Small Penis Party, which invites those with a smaller-than-average member to celebrate their size, has been shared thousands of times on Facebook, the Daily Star reported.

The event, which claims to be the "first ever conference for the celebration and acceptance of small penises everywhere" as per the Facebook invite, is for men and woman, of all lengths, and suggests that people have to pay "50p per claimed phallic inch" for entry.

Ant Smith, who put on the event in hope of celebrating the body parts that are not seen as attractive in society, said that it's a small, but growing, movement and this event is the first that really calls the lesser endowed men into the open.

The penis campaigner noted that judging by the response so far he expects the venue to be filled to capacity, adding that New York had a Small Penis Pageant, but that was just a handful.

Smith added that Riot TV will be filming the party for a documentary on the subject and the event has already had some celebrity endorsements as he even saw Diplo tweet Lorde that they should come and perform.

The event is billed for March 7 and kicks off at 7pm at the Rhythm Factory, London.

Now You can watch World Cup Cricket in Doordarshan

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that national broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) can show World Cup 2015 cricket matches free of cost. The apex court dismissed the plea of Star Sports - the official broadcasters of the tournament in India - and said that Prasar Bharti can share the feed with cable operators.

Prasar Bharati came to Supreme Court after Delhi High Court ruled that DD can't share the feed freely with cable operators. The top court had stayed the high court order so that viewers could watch the India vs Pakistan match.

Star Sports had argued that it had invested crores of money and it is objecting to DD sharing its feed with cable operators and Star sports is incurring huge loss.

It also said that DD can share the free feed terrestrially but that cable operators have to carry DD channels by law and the cricket matches are shown live on these channels.

Nisham's relative tries to meet public prosecutor

Thrissur: Even as the case involving Muhammed Nisham, who has been detained by the police for murdering a security personnel, is under the consideration of the District Sessions Court, his father's brother is said to have paid a visit to the District Public Prosecutor's office.

The court, which was to hear a bail plea by Nisham, put off the hearing after Chandra Bose, the security guard who was attacked by Nisham, died due to injuries on that day. Following the death of the victim, the prosecution argued strongly that the accused should not be granted bail.

District Prosecutor K.B.Ranendranath said that he was approached by Nisham's relative while he was leaving for the court, but he did not respond to the approach. Police officials investigating the case are witness to what had happened, he said.

Meanwhile, the police are planning to record statements of witnesses in the presence of the magistrate as a safeguard against witnesses later turning hostile. Statements from all witnesses would be recorded this way, the police said.

The Public Prosecutor has started measures to fast-track the case. In order to ensure that the chargesheet would be submitted in 90 days, District Prosecutor K B Ranendranath discussed the issue with police officers. The police is also speeding up evidence collection to meet the deadline. Cases are fast-tracked depending on their importance and severity. It is also speeded up in situations where it would not be desirable to grant bail to the accused.

Live: Jitan Ram Manjhi resigns as Bihar CM, recommends dissolution of Assembly

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Majhi on Friday resigned ahead of trust vote in Assembly. Here are the live updates from Bihar:

10:45 am: As per reports, Manjhi has recommended to the state Governor that the Assembly be dissolved and fresh polls conducted in the state.

10:40 am: Reports say Manjhi will address a press conference at 11:30 am.

10:35 am: In a sudden development, Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Majhi has resigned ahead of trust vote in Assembly.

10:30 am: Ahead of the trust vote later today, CM Manjhi has just met state Governor KN Tripathi.

10:25 am: JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPI legislators and one Independent MLA supporting Nitish Kumar will boycott Governor's inaugural speech in the Assembly, says JD(U) chief whip Sharawan Kumar. He adds that these MLAs will enter the Assembly during the trust vote.

10:00 am: The Bihar Assembly session will start today at 11:00 am with Governor's address to the joint session. Manjhi will table the proposal to hold trust vote at 12 noon and voting is expected to be held on the same at 2:30 pm.

09:45 am: BJP has issued a whip to its Bihar MLAs asking them to vote for Manjhi during the trust vote.

09:30 am: D-day has arrived for Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. He, Friday, faces a trust vote on the floor of the Bihar Legislative Assembly to prove majority of his government.

In a good news for the embattled CM, BJP yesterday announced that it will support the 'Mahadalit' CM during the floor test.

"After a long meeting of the BJP legislators, the party has decided to support Manjhi during his confidence vote in the Assembly," said BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi.

The BJP's offer of support came on a day when Bihar Speaker Uday Narain Choudhary notified JD-U leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary as the leader of opposition, replacing Nand Kishore Yadav of the BJP.

The Speaker also accepted former chief minister Nitish Kumar's demand that Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) be given the status of the main opposition party.

Following the Speaker's decision, BJP MLAs created a ruckus and protested in the Assembly complex .

"How could the Speaker take away the opposition party tag from the BJP," asked senior party leader Shahnawaz Hussain.

"We protest against this move as well as the way the JD-U is treating Manjhi, who is a Mahadalit," Hussain said at a press conference in New Delhi.

He also said that the BJP has nothing to with the charges of horse-trading being made by the Nitish Kumar's camp.

Manjhi, after being expelled from the JD-U on February 9, has been declared as an unattached member in the Assembly. He was expelled for allegedly "indulging in anti-party activities". But he has refused to resign and has to prove his majority in the house today.

Manjhi yesterday said he will offer Cabinet berths to legislators, who will support him during the confidence motion. "Aaiye mera samarthan kijiye, mantri pad lijiye (come to support me and become a minister)," he told reporters, attending a function here.

Also yesterday, the Patna High Court ordered that eight rebel JD-U legislators, considered close to Manjhi, would not vote during the confidence motion in the Assembly.

A bench of Justice Iqbal Ahmad barred the JD-U MLAs from voting after hearing their petition, seeking permission to vote during the floor test.

Manjhi was picked by Nitish Kumar as his replacement when he quit last year after JD-U's rout in the Lok Sabha polls.

In the 243-member Assembly, the JD-U has 115 legislators -- most of whom are with Nitish Kumar. The party has the support of 24 Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislators, five Congress MLAs, two Independents and a CPI MLA.

The BJP has 88 legislators and is supported by three Independents.

A 'bad girl' smokes, drinks and has breasts!

An image which has gone viral on social media could easily be something on the lines of what the various controversial sadhus think about women.

The image, supposed to be a poster from one of the many cut-and-paste books available for children, lists out nine qualities that define a girl as a bad girl.
Titled "A Bad Girl" and in Hindi "Ek Buri Ladki" lists out the many things that make a girl a "bad girl".
While the usual suspects smoking and drinking are part of it, whoever created this came up with the bright idea of adding such things as "Pouts", "eats too much", "eats too "less" and "can't make round rotis" to the list.

This basically means that any girl who takes a selfie while making a duckface with the sole purpose of putting the photograph on social media is a bad girl.

At the same time, girls who eat too much and girls who eat too less are also bad girls. (We hope the creater of the poster can make up his mind as to whether he wants the girls to eat or not!)

Of course, watching pornography is an absolute sign that a girl is rotten to the core among other things such as letches at other boys, falls in love in a park and rides a motorbike.
But what takes the cake is the fact that the poster lists out the fact that a girl "has breasts" that qualify her to be a bad girl. Just one question, aren't women, or girls for that matter, supposed to have breasts for them to qualify as girls?

We just hope that this was a sarcastic take on the definition of a "bad girl".

Facebook building versions of its apps in 'virtual reality'

Washington: Facebook has reportedly declared that it is building versions of its apps in virtual reality.

Chris Cox, the company's head of product said while speaking at Recode's Code Media conference in Dana Point that Facebook VR was on its way. While he did not describe the app in details, he imagines world where people would be able to share their "current environment" with others using the app. It would become an everyday way of sharing, Cox added, reported The Verge.

Facebook's desire to venture into " virtual reality" was clearly spelt when the company acquiredOculus VR in a two billion dollar deal last year.

Minor girl raped, murdered in Lonavala hotel

Pune: The body of a seven-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered, was found at a hotel in Lonavala near here, police said on Thursday.

The girl had gone to the hotel along with her family members to attend a wedding function on Sunday. She later went missing and her body with slit throat was found on the hotel's terrace on Tuesday afternoon.

The minor was sexually assaulted, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Manoj Kumar Lohiya told PTI, while quoting an 'advanced certificate' issued by concerned medical authorities.

"We will get the postmortem report today. We are investigating the case on top priority. We have filed police complaint under relevant IPC sections," Lohiya said.

The footage of CCTVs installed in the hotel is being examined and statements of the hotel staff and the people who attended the function are being recorded.

"We found that the CCTV camera on the terrace was not working, but two CCTVs installed at the gate were functional.

We are analysing the feeds. We have started recording statements of the persons who were there at the wedding ceremony, including hotel staff, catering staff and management," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim's father, hailing from Indapur tehsil in Maharashtra's Raigad district, told reporters that they had come to attend a wedding at the hotel in Lonavala and their daughter went missing on Sunday night.

Alleging that police was not carrying out proper probe in the case, he said that when he first went to lodge the missing complaint on Sunday night, police refused to act immediately and instead asked him search for the girl on his own.

The hotel staff also did not cooperate with him in the search for his missing daughter, he further alleged.

"We could have save her had the police acted immediately," the distraught father said.

Police have registered a case under IPC sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping) and other relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act in this regard.
